We need you.

The Oakford Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade responds to fire
emergencies 7 days a week, 365 days a year. But we can't do it alone.

We're seeking new recruits to join our brigade.

We're a dedicated team of volunteer firefighters committed to protecting our community and Western Australia from the devastating effects of bushfires. Whether you're an experienced firefighter or have no experience at all, we provide comprehensive training, modern personal protective equipment, and ongoing support to help you become a skilled and capable firefighter.

As a volunteer firefighter you will:

  • Directly combat and minimise the impact of fire emergencies in our local area and across Western Australia.
  • Gain essential skills through formal Department of Fire and Emergency Services training to respond to life-threatening emergencies.
  • Develop as a leader while building strong relationships and contributing as a valued member of a dedicated, high-performing team.
  • Challenge yourself with new experiences in an extremely dynamic and rewarding role.

If you're ready to take the next step, register your interest below.

Once registered you'll receive an invitation to an information session, where you'll meet our dedicated brigade members and be provided with an informative tour of our station, fire appliances, and our operations.

The recruitment process includes:

  • Allocation of a full set of modern personal protective equipment.
  • Enrolment in Bushfire Safety Awareness and Firefighting Skills at the WAFES Academy.
  • Completion of the AIIMS Awareness course online.
  • Conducting mitigation burning.
  • Mobilisation to incidents and emergencies.

Throughout your journey, our leadership team and an assigned mentor will support your ongoing firefighter development. You will receive continuous training on Tuesday evenings, and after completing the recruitment process, you'll have access to numerous opportunities to gain competencies in Structural Firefighting, Pump Operations, Emergency Driving, Crew Leading, Incident Control, and more.

In December 2024, the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale awarded the contract for the design and construction of the new Oakford Fire Station on Pony Place. For many of our members, this milestone has been over 25 years in the making.

With construction expected to be completed by June 2026 members will soon benefit from a modern facility that is purpose-built for the brigade's needs, made possible by the generous support of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
